The Ultimate GumTree Run 2005

The offical Tupelo GumTree 10K Race was cancelled this year,
but the Barefoot Ultimate folks decided to Keep the GumTree Spirit Alive!

Barefoot Ultimate is a group of local folks who gather at Ballard Park every Sunday afternoon to play Ultimate, aka frisbee football. Disappointed that there would be no official GumTree 10K Race this year, they took it upon themselves to run the course on GumTree Festival Saturday, making this the 29th consecutive running of the GumTree 10K which started in 1977.

Saturday morning at 9am the weather was sunny with mild temperatures - perfect running conditions - as they set out to run the GumTree 10K Race course. As they passed the Lee County Courthouse and the GumTree Festival, they shouted "Viva la GumTree!", and later a crowd along Clayton Avenue cheered them on. At the 3.5 mile mark, volunteers provided much needed, cool, relief by handing out water. There was no race clock, but it was a good time for everyone involved.

Rest assured that the GumTree Run continues, and should be back to normal race status this time next year!
